Wow! This week flew by. Our days have been busy studying for spelling tests, preparing for picture day and Read Across America week at school. But, I’m happy to report a little crafting was done in between.
When I find myself in a creative block or just lacking a bit of creative energy, I like to flip through my pattern paper supply and imagine pretty paper combos. This helps kick-start my mind for potential projects, plus it’s a great way to revisit using that beautiful stack of pattern paper that sometimes I tend to forget about. For today’s card projects, I chose three complimentary pattern papers – a floral, stripe, and brushed watercolor.
I knew I wanted to use the Tri-Window cover – creative cuts by Mama Elephant. To begin, I decided to attempt to make a shaker card. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am not the best shaker card maker. I personally tend to battle the most with keeping the acetate layer clean of dust and debris and properly adhering it to the card panel. However, constructing the layers of this card was a bit easier this go around which made me very happy! Maybe all the shaker card stars aligned for me!
In the past, I have used thicker foam to build my retainer walls for the shaker bits. However, today I used thin foam strips from Waffle Flower Crafts to pop up my framed Studio Katia acetate panel to the card base. In doing this, the card stayed relatively low in profile much like a flat shaker. This helped it to still fit in a standard A2 sized envelope fairly well.
I just love the shiny and pastel embellishment combo made of Butterfly Kisses sequins from Simon Says Stamp and Ice jewels from Little Things from Lucy’s Cards.
After adhering my background pattern paper pieces into place (say that 5x real fast), I filled each window bay of this beautiful mix. Give us all the bling!
I carefully lined up my acetate panel to the base, pressed into place, and gave it a good shake! It is natural for some sequins to stick to the sides of the foam (even if I dust with a bit of powder). So, I tend to add a little extra of the embellishments into the window to allow some to stick and some to keep moving.
For the front of the card, I incorporated a bunny image from the Up With Love stamp and coordinating creative cuts from Mama Elephant.
I stamped the bunny using Gina K. Designs obsidian amalgam ink and used my Ohuhu pastel Honolulu series alcohol markers to apply color.
I die cut the bunny using the Up With Love coordinating creative cuts. However, I didn’t need or want the balloon for this particular card design. I used my EK Success non-stick scissors and cut off the areas where the balloon string connected to the bunny. I then used a white gel pen to mask the remaining string lines and to add a few highlights to the image.
Next, I chose a beautiful textured blue card stock (layered in white card stock) to die cut the words “LOVE” (included with the Tri-window cover) and three little accent hearts (included in Up With Love creative cuts). I adhered all pieces to the front of the card front using liquid adhesive. I love how the bunny is placing in the letter “L” for the word “LOVE”. So cute as he is on his tippy toes!
To finish the card, a coordinating sentiment “Somebody Loves You” is stamped on the inside.
The second card project was more simpIe with basic paper piecing into the die cut frame.
I then used the same blue textured card stock to die cut the word “HUGS” (layered in a white card stock) and another set of the little hearts.
To finish, I stamped and popped up a coordinating sentiment, “You Are Loved And Appreciated”. I really like how simple yet adorable this design came to be.
