Happy Makers Monday! Today, I’m excited to share with you a card featuring Simon Says Stamp’s Graceful Butterfly embossing folder and die set.
For this particular birthday card project, I started with an A2 sized card base of aqua card stock and embossed the front using a Swiss dot embossing folder. I then die cut two of the butterflies that come with the Graceful Butterfly embossing folder and die set. I left them plain white with no embossing and set them to the side.
At first, I thought to make this a gate fold greeting card where the opening runs vertical connecting the butterfly in the center of the body. But, in the end decided to go with a horizontal table tent style opening. However, in doing this, the card does not stand up for display on its own. But, it does create a fun and unexpected opening for the written message.
Using my liquid adhesive, I adhered the larger white butterfly where I wanted it to go on the front. Next, I cut off the front panel at the top of the card base and then cut again about three fourths of the way down to form two pieces. I then scored the top of the upper butterfly piece to make a small fold.
Next, I created a hot pink border and adhered it to the top of the remaining card base. I then adhered the lower butterfly piece to the bottom of the card base. After doing so, this let me know exactly where I needed to piece in the upper half of the butterfly panel to the front adhering down with the fold.
Moving to the inside of the card (when lifting the flap), I adhered a matching piece of aqua card stock cut to size. This helped acheive a seamless look. I then added a white stitched panel cut using one of the nesting stitched rectangle dies from Waffle Flower Crafts. To the bottom right I adhered the smaller butterfly that I cut using the Graceful Butterfly die set. I used a couple of my Ohuhu alcohol markers in shades of pink to give this little butterfly an ombre look.
To finish this card, I die cut and popped up the classic sentiment “Happy Birthday” using hot pink card stock with a black card stock shadow layer using the Honey Bee Stamps Bitty Buzzwords dies.
BONUS CARD DESIGN
For the coordinating bonus card, I used a series of embossing folders (Simon Says Stamp geometric lattice, Park Lane rose bouquet, and Cuttlebug Swiss dot) along with my Waffle Flower Crafts nesting stitched rectangle dies to create some super fun card panels full of texture. I angled and layered them in frames. Using liquid adhesive, I adhered them to my card base and trimmed off the overhanging sections of each panel to finish. I used the Honey Bee Stamps Bitty Buzzwords dies to cut the word “Thanks” from silver foil card stock and then heat embossed “For Everything” from the coordinating stamp set in white embossing powder onto black card stock. I just love the cursive font of all the Bitty Buzzwords. Honey Bee Stamps has unique sets of these for all different seasons!
The hot pink, aqua and bright white really make both of these cards pop! You can find list of supplies for both card projects down below. Thank you so much for joining me today, and I’ll see you next time!
